Looking for some thoughts...
One of my variants got a different map after some playtesting.
Now I'm thinking about a way to update to the new map without screwing the older (and ongoing) games, and without creating a new variant.
And ideas?

Oliver

I'd make it into a new variant and disable the older one from new games. You could try and dynamically alter the mapID, but I don't know how that would behave

At the moment it's not possible to disable a variant just from the new games. You can disable the whole variant in Config::$variants, but that'll throw errors if there are ongoing games or someone want to view the old games...

Hmm, that's probably a functionality we'll have to add in then. Some kind of deprecated status that can be added either in config.php or in the variant class itself

That would also be useful for deactivating variants that you end up not liking, or doing a variant-of-the-month type deal if you wanted.

Basically have all the available variants have some sort of flag as to availability status -- either "Available," "Deprecated," "Invite Only," "Beta," etc. That would enable testing of new variants on a limited basis, and storing new versions as new variants, but then just hotswapping them at the new game screen while letting old ones peter out on their own.

Small bump on this.
It's something I would really like to see solved.
We have quite some original variants that do get small upgrades. There should be some way to assign more maps (or rule-changes) to one variant.
I really do not like the idea to make a complete new variant for some balance-fixes. What if a variant takes 5 (or more) iterations?
Somehow I would like to add some kind of "version" information to the games-table and load the correct files based on this.
