I have a question about some generic PHP-development issues.
My vdiplomacy-server is more or less the only "full working" install. I have a totally screwed test-install at home and upload the files by hand after I changed them.
Now that's a pain if you want to update the install with new code, or to do some local tests.
Now that we can have CVS-access it "should" be much easier, but I have next to none programming knowledge.
How would you set up this?
I need my local install, an easy way to integrate the CVS from the main webdip code, and a publish to live function.
I'm currently experimenting with NetBeans. It works nice as I can set up a local webdip-install that can be merged to live really easy. But how do I integrate the webdip-CVS. (IMHO somehow I have to define my version as a Branch of the "official" code, but an example would help.)

What I do is I have a local installation and a simple shell script which syncs it with the webdiplomacy.net code and puts it in a tarball for download. Though we may do things differently since the only time my local install is broken is while I'm developing something, and the rest of the time it mirrors webdiplomacy.net

It can get tricky though, when you're working on major code changes which means forking for so long that you need to maintain two code-sets, but that's always going to be hassle no matter what software you use I think. I've had to do that for 0.8 and 0.9 (0.9 was forked for almost a year before release)

Maybe once we've got source control working more seamlessly things will be smoother, but we're both newcomers to that approach
