Thanks for this program. It looks amazing. Can't wait to play.

Hi. I installed on my local pc running Ubuntu. I followed the install guide, and got as far as the DATC tests. What I get is:
Quote:
testID countryID unitType terrID moveType toTerrID fromTerrID viaConvoy criteria legal
101 1 (England) Fleet 53 (North Sea) Move 45 (Picardy) No Hold No
Initialized test, generating orders

England

Loading order...

and it just stays there. I expect some javascript is suppsed to run to complete the test, but I get no errors.

And the solution:

It turns out that this was because a directory was not writeable by the apache process. So far as I can see, apache will need write access to (Note the first two may be reconfigured in your config.php:

Code:
../errorlogs
../orderlogs
./webdiplomacy/cache
./webdiplomacy/datc/maps
./webdiplomacy/variants/Classic/cache

And probably
Code:
./webdiplomacy/variants/BuildAnywhere/cache
./webdiplomacy/variants/CustomStart/cache
./webdiplomacy/variants/World/cache
./webdiplomacy/variants/FleetRome/cache

I hope this helps someone.

Nicely done, I'll try and improve error handling/checks there

I have exactly the same problem, but I don't think it is due to file/folder permissions.

I am using iis 7.5.

I have other applications that use php and mysql with no problems and I believe I have followed all the instructions in readme.txt

This one was a small problem i hit, but thankfully i saw the thread and the error messaging was nice to me.

However, there was no nice error messaging for this one: Fatal error: Call to undefined function imagecreatefrompng() in /home/orathaic/www/webdiplomacy/map/drawMap.php on line 297

now i realise GD isn't installed. And this is my problem, though the first time i hit this was on the registration page where the easycaptcha displays the alt-text rather than any indication why the src="<?php print STATICSRV; ?>contrib/easycaptcha.php" is failing to return an image.

(now to hunt installing GD on my php system... )
EDIT:
Ok, figured out the issue eventually. As i said GD not installed properly.
an error message would be nice. Obviously the 'alt text' on the captcha is the default error behaviour for images...

You're right that better error messages would be good, but I think since webDip installations are aimed at developers it would be a bit wasteful to put too much time into easy installation
